The strange world screen and spectacular spheres: Launching the Malaysia International Spectacular at precinct one, Putrajaya in world-class style.
AD SURIA, the world-class events experts behind the Eye on Malaysia and the Malaysia International Space Adventure invites Malaysians and tourists to enjoy the first two of the Malaysia International Spectacular show series at Precinct One, Putrajaya.
KUALA LUMPUR, 18 April 2008 (Friday): To celebrate Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2008 in style, AD SURIA, the homegrown world-class events specialist behind the Eye on Malaysia, is proud to bring Malaysians and tourists the Strange World Screen and Spectacular Spheres. These visual feasts will be launched by YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said, the Minister of Tourism, to officiate the Malaysia International Spectacular live show series at Precinct One, Putrajaya.
YB Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said said: “The Ministry of Tourism is delighted to present these fantastic shows. These colourful and dynamic performances, staged on the waters of beautiful Putrajaya Lake, guarantee that this will be a unique visual experience that is not to be missed and we are confident that it will help draw visitors to Precinct One, thereby creating Putrajaya’s new entertainment venue. This is very much in line with Tourism Malaysia’s aim to boost Putrajaya’s status as a vibrant tourist destination during VMY 2008.”
With the width of 90 metres and height of 35 metres, the Strange World Screen comprises of the world’s largest and most powerful high-tech water screens. Crafted from a screenplay showcasing a fluid series of dynamic Malaysian images, lighting effects and high-tech laser artistry, this show will be accompanied by a world premiere musical soundtrack composed by Chong Lim, the internationally acclaimed Malaysian musical director known for his work for the stage and screen and with superstars such as Kylie Minogue.
Pn Jamilah Itam, Business Director of AD SURIA, said: “Our aim of bringing in the unique Malaysia International Spectacular showcase to Putrajaya is to present a world-class show as Putrajaya’s part in making Visit Malaysia Year 2008 a truly memorable experience for Malaysians and tourists alike. Therefore, we have collaborated with Perbadanan Putrajaya as the host venue to produce the special montage of striking Putrajaya visuals that have been incorporated as part of the Strange World Screen show.”
Also being launched tonight is the second of the Malaysia International Spectacular showcase series –Spectacular Spheres. Designed by the team that brought 10,000 people to the banks of the Yarra River every night at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Spectacular Spheres comprises of large scale floating sphere sculptures that combine fantastic water, lighting and projection effects to illuminate Putrajaya Lake at night to the beat of a captivating soundtrack. A combination of Japanese, German and Australian technology is used to bring the Spheres to life and the formation is designed to perform a symphonic visual ballet on the water surface.
Chris Sifton, Creative Director of Spectacular Spheres said: “We have specially designed the Spectacular Spheres for Malaysia. Putrajaya is one of the most beautiful venues in the world for our larger-than-life show and is, in fact, an ideal backdrop for it. We are certainly looking forward to putting on a fantastical lightshow that will wow visitors and tourists of all ages who come to Putrajaya.”
According to Pn Jamilah Itam, the staging of these Malaysia International Spectacular showcases is also part of AD SURIA’s commitment to the transfer of skills and technologies from world-class experts to Malaysian talent. She said: “AD SURIA’s staff are excited to have the opportunity to work with and learn from the Spectacular Spheres and Strange World Screen teams. We are looking forward to this boost in our knowledge and skills which we will be able to apply to similar projects in the future.”

The Strange World Screen will run nightly from 27 March 2008 to 31 May 2008 and the Spectacular Spheres will run nightly from 5 April 2008 to 31 August 2008.
